Bosch will build humanoid robots in Germany's northern Black Forest. Series production at the Bühl plant is due to start in August 2027. Several hundred units are planned at first. The Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung reported the plan on 21 August. It would be the first time the group manufactures such AI-controlled machines in series.
The robot itself is not developed in Baden-Württemberg but in London. The British company Humanoid builds the HMND 01 platform for the European market. Bosch takes on the role of contract manufacturer, the trade magazine Automobil Produktion reports. The group is not developing a robot platform of its own. Its task is to move someone else's technology into scalable production.
A practical test in March 2026 came first, also at Bühl. The robot worked there in intralogistics. It moved boxes of varying size and weight from conveyor belts onto transport trolleys on its own. Humanoid's AI system KinetIQ controlled the machine. According to both partners, every project goal was met.
The machines follow the human body plan, with a head, arms, hands and legs. They are intended above all for factories and logistics. Uses in nursing care and in the home are considered possible in the long run, Handelsblatt writes.
Bosch weighs supplying parts
How far the group goes technically remains open. Bosch told the newspaper it might also supply drives, motors and sensors. Both companies are currently examining that option. In time, Bosch components are meant to feed into the next generation of the HMND 01.
"This agreement is a decisive step in our roadmap to close the gap between prototype and large-scale deployment," says Artem Sokolov, founder and chief executive of Humanoid. Bosch technology chief Matthias Pillin describes the shared aim as moving the technology "from the prototype stage into scaled, reliable production".
The partnership belongs to a wider robotics strategy. Bosch also cooperates with Neura Robotics and Spirit AI. Whether humanoid robots reach everyday factory work will be decided by cost, reliability and serviceability. The plant in Bühl is meant to answer exactly those questions.
